The process of commissioning calligraphy or lettering from skilled practitioners can be a very rewarding experience. An initial contact may or could be followed up by a visit to the client, or details for a particular artefact can be discussed via emails. In discussion, please bear in mind that the specific context for a piece of work would normally cover such topics as choice of materials, approximate size and decorative elements. The important factor is the wording or text which has a determining effect on the overall form of the design. There are situations where there is no alternative but to fit a given text into a prescribed space. In this case the inscription will be done as expertly as possible within the given format.

The words used often suggest an appropriate choice of letterform, from classical to freestyle, or a more contemporary format. After all the information is gathered in, a rough design is prepared for approval. Modifications to the design are more easily carried out at this stage and only when all details are finally resolved the work is completed.

Please note
Where names are used on invitations or certificates, the commissioner must ensure the spelling is correct. Please type names (to ensure correct spelling for the calligrapher) and supply all information at the same time. Please make sure that you allow enough time for the completion of the commission. There is a minimum charge for 1 hour of calligraphy work; stationery inscriptions for example, are from £1-£3 per name with discounts available for large quantities. On receipt of the wording you wish to use we will give you an estimated cost for your project. That agreed we will produce a rough sketch of your presentation piece. In some cases a cheque for 50% of the estimated cost is required on approval of the design to confirm the order. The remainder will be due on receipt of the finished piece.

Calligraphy Studio has a policy of 30-day money back guarantee. If a customer is not satisfied with our final work for any reason, there will be a complete refund on return of the work.
