Veiko Kespersaks - world class calligraphy master. Over the last 20 years I have completed many corporate and private commissions.
I am a skilled professional craftsman who has been producing bespoke lettering and calligraphy for international corporations, charities, arts institutions and societies. Calligraphy commissions are also accepted from private individuals, public companies and organisations.

I work proficiently in all alphabetical styles, noting that the current fashion is for a contemporary italic hand (with many variations). I am also a specialist in bringing ‘aged’ documents up to date if it is necessary. However I can “recreate” any calligraphy hand from very delicate to primitive childish hands. If you have your own example that you wish to use I can replicate an identical image, just bring it with you or send it to me.

Estimates are given and working drawings are always sent (by post or email as appropriate if it is not an urgent order) for approval prior to starting the finished work.

Final work can be sent anywhere in the world.

COMMISSIONING WORK IS A REWARDING EXPERIENCE
The calligraphy or lettering commissioning process can be a very rewarding experience. An initial contact may or could be followed up by a visit to the client, or details for a particular artefact can be discussed via emails. In discussion, please bear in mind that the specific context for a piece of work would normally cover such topics as choice of materials, approximate size and decorative elements. The important factor is the wording or text which has a determining effect on the overall form of the design. The text can be established in the following formats: rectangular, circular, oval etc. There are situations where there is no alternative but to fit a given text into a prescribed space. Using this experience the inscription will be done as expertly as possible within the given format. The words used often suggest an appropriate choice of letterform, from classical to freestyle, or more contemporary forms.

After all the information is gathered in, a rough design is prepared for approval. Modifications to the design are more easily carried out at this stage and only when all details are finally resolved is the work completed.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
The text and size
Where names are used on invitations or certificates, the commissioner must ensure the spelling is correct. Please type names (to ensure my correct spelling) and supply all information at the same time. Mistakes and change of mind can cost you more time in work.

Text of poetry, prose or quotation needs your thoughts on colour and size. The commissioner will need to check copyright.

It is better to start arranging the text and then establish a format around the pattern.
As commissions come in all shapes and sizes, I am happy to discuss your requirements without obligations.

I would recommend that you give the work some visual space. Be prepared for something larger if there’s lots of text. Colour in the pen is at no extra cost, but coloured backgrounds are. Coloured papers in this case are a better option. Gold and decorative features are also an extra.

Your deadline
Pleas make sure that you leave enough time to complete the commission. I am happy to discuss commissions at short notice. However, my aim is for excellence and as with anything well crafted, I appreciate a considerable time to produce the finest work. An extremely short timetable can be slightly more expensive.

Cost of Commission
There is a minimum charge for 2 hours of calligraphy work, stationery inscriptions for example, are from £1-£3 per name with discounts available for large quantities. However a lot of design work is based on how many hours the work takes to complete. Minimum full working day charge is £150. I am also able to provide competitively priced event and party stationery to your requirements as necessary.

I am happy to give a price for a commission or if the commissioner has a budget to stick to. I can offer advise as to what can be done to suit a particular budget.
